CALTEX REFINING, ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH, SAFETY & RISK [REHSR]: We maintain an
active presence at Caltex Refinery Brisbane.
Our Caltex SOP is to maintain Gas Testing & Hygiene Monitoring Equipment for ready use
by Refinery Operators, and Trade Contractors.
Other service agreement duties include walk through surveys of the plant, consultation as ccupational health & safety advisors, and
the delivery of in-house training such as the 'Operator Gas Tester' training course.
We interact with other environmental, Health & Safety professionals. They are the best in
the industry and with every new day the team has fresh challenges to tackle.
BP HEALTH SAFETY SECURITY & ENVIRONMENT [HSSE] AND VARIOUS REFINERIES: On an
as required basis we provide a hygiene monitoring and consultative service at the BP Refinery Brisbane.
There are many similarities between the different oil companies when it comes to occupational
Health & Safety. Whilst they may be in competition with each other in terms of
what they offer
their customers they do share information about keeping people safe and healthy.
Good planning results in fewer clashes in terms of scheduled maintenance at different refineries because the Trade Contactors that carry out the specialist maintenance work can not afford to spilt their work force because skilled workers are in demand across the nation due to a resource boom.
Environics in terms of the number of people from one company onsite during a shutdown is a small company relative to the maintenance and construction companies that combined can have up to 800 people onsite. The number of Gas Testers/Hygiene Monitoring Technicians we have onsite depends
on the clients' specification and focus. It can range to one per shift to several per shift up to nine staff members during a shutdown that may last up to eight weeks.
Our work with BP is to provide coverage during the time when workers are out on the plant and the Operators are focusing on their various duties associated with ensuring the work proceeds safely and effectively in accordance with the various work plans worked out months before the project has started. We have identified through our work that 'Refinery Operators' regardless of which oil company they work for all possess the same attitude with regard to safety - vigilant and pro-active. Whilst we do gas test confined spaces at BP for specific contaminates our role is mainly to conduct hygiene monitoring and to alert their Refinery Operators of potential problems.
